To negotiate with payers, eliminate unprofitable services, and successfully compete in the healthcare market place, each provider needs to establish the cost of providing services to their patients.
In the CostFlex System, the cost of a patient is simply the sum of the costs of the work tasks (activities) used in the diagnosis, care and treatment of the patient. These costs are meticulously determined by the CostFlex Activity Based Costing module.
The transfer of these work task costs to the patient they were performed for takes seconds. At the end of this process, the sum of the costs of all patients served during the month reconciles exactly to the sum of the expenditures downloaded to the ABC system. (Sum of expenditures equals sum of patient costs)
Discharged patient demographics and cash received are also downloaded and stored in the CostFlex relational database. Downloads of claims data – 835 and 837 – capture denial codes and patient co-payments.
