Since the fundamental principles of cost accounting change about as fast as GAAP (Generally Accept Accounting Principles) (i.e.: glacially), theCostFlex R&D efforts over the years have been focused on adapting to and using the fantastic changes constantly emerging from the technology, developing new ways to use cost data to help hospital managers, and monitoring and complying with the constantly changing federal reimbursement and patient privacy (HIPAA) regulations.
As to the use of the internet, we have tested and rejected moving our core products to the web primarily due to performance and security concerns.
However, we are eagerly waiting (2016) for the launch of our smartphone and web based application which addresses the continuum of care, interoperability, and clinical follow-up problems now facing healthcare.
Some of the technologies we have studied and sometimes tested include employee tracking systems to more precisely capture the direct variable consumption of labor expenditures. This included manual and electronic capture of data by RFID and bar coding technology for use in surgery, nursing, and several therapy departments.
