Today, CostFlex President Michael Ryan spoke at the Alabama HFMA Annual Institute in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Michael was joined by Melanie Sigler, Director of Accounting and Decision Support, at Springhill Health to present their session If You Can Count It, You Can Cost It™. Michael and Melanie will present the session again later this month at the CostFlex User Group Conference.
Their presentation covered the current method of cost accounting in the US healthcare market, using charge codes as activity drivers. They discussed changes for more accurate costing, including overhead department costing methods and obtaining precise surgery costs. Before and after cost analysis was provided to show the impact on patient costs and profit reporting.
